Chemical Contained, Safety Maintained

MMS Engineering coating solutions are highly versatile and sought-after in various industries due to their exceptional performance in different applications. They are especially useful in high-purity environments, where they provide excellent chemical resistance properties that protect equipment, tools, and processes. Learn more.

Why need Chemical Resistance?

Chemical resistance is the extent to which a material can maintain its resistance to chemicals – protecting against chemical attack or solvent reaction, determining a material’s resistance to corrosive environments. Components that regularly come into contact with harmful chemicals (such as solvents, oils, salt or hydraulic fluids) are at risk of degradation. Materials with low chemical resistance lose their performance levels as the materials tend to swell or soften.

Factors that impact a materials chemical resistance include:

  • Chemical concentration

  • Chemical substance the component is exposed to

  • Degree of exposure (full, partial)

  • Duration of exposure (permanent, temporary)

  • Temperature

  • Mechanical load

Preventing Chemical Attack

Most coatings face some degree of chemical attack, for example cleaning agents, however these are typically mild and do not impact the integrity of a high-quality coating. When exposure is prolonged and more severe (for example oilfield machinery) a coating with high chemical resistance may be required.

A chemically-resistant coating is a protective layer offering maximum protection to a surface, such as components which regularly come into contact with harmful chemicals. When selecting a coating for chemical resistance it is important to consider:
